Driving Change with Buffalo Go Green

Buffalo Go Green: A Growing Force for Food Justice in Buffalo, NY

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting the mobile market run by our partners at Buffalo Go Green. BGG is an organization making a profound impact on food equity and health in Western New York. From the moment we stepped into their vibrant green truck (built by The Farmers’ Truck), it was clear: this team is out there every week doing the work.

Founded by Allison DeHonney, Buffalo Go Green (BGG) is a nonprofit organization rooted in addressing nutritional inequities through urban agriculture, education, and empowerment. Their mission goes far beyond growing food. It’s about transforming communities through hands-on training, sustainable growing practices, and access to fresh, local produce.

Their programs include:

  • Year-round hydroponic and greenhouse farming

  • Nutrition education in schools

  • Corporate wellness partnerships

  • Community outreach and growing initiatives

  • And of course, the mobile market, which brings food directly into neighborhoods facing barriers to access.

We visited their Highmark Mobile Market on-site and were so impressed by how consistently they’re out in the community. The produce looked incredible—fresh, colorful, and plentiful. Their presence at community health centers, local markets, and events ensures that families can access nutritious food in a dignified and welcoming way.

Here’s where you can catch them each week:

  • Sunday: Kenmore Farmers Market (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)

  • Tuesday: Mrs. Nash’s Market (4:30 – 6:00 PM)

  • Wednesday: Community Health Centers (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

  • Thursday: Delavan Grider Center (4:00 – 6:00 PM)

  • Friday: Niagara Street Pediatrics (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM)

Their Highmark Mobile Market—powered through a Blue Fund grant—serves as a food prescription hub and educational tool, complete with vouchers, cooking demos, and nutrition programming. Together, Highmark and Buffalo Go Green are setting a gold standard for how food systems can intersect with health care and education to drive lasting change.

At The Farmers’ Truck, we’re proud to have helped build their mobile market and even prouder to support leaders like Allison who bring that market to life. These are the kinds of partnerships that fuel our mission—community-driven, grassroots, and growing every day.
